Why AI May Not Be Citing Your Website
A missing citation does not reveal whether a page was inaccessible, irrelevant, unused or simply not linked in the answer. Review those possibilities separately before deciding what to change.
Confirm what you observed
Record the engine, question, date and whether the answer contains any citations. A mode without visible links cannot be assessed in the same way as one that provides a source list. Keep a brand mention separate from a link to your domain.
Check access and relevance
Verify the page response, indexability, internal links and readable text. Then ask whether the page actually answers the question. A crawlable product homepage may be less relevant than a detailed implementation guide for an implementation question.
Improve the page for its reader
Add the missing explanation, evidence or example where it belongs. If sources are already linked, inspect what they contribute without copying their content. Recheck a stable prompt sample later; a successful crawl or a revised paragraph does not guarantee a citation.
