AI Search Ranking Factors: What You Can Verify

There is no single public formula covering source selection and brand recommendations across all AI products. Distinguish documented requirements, observations from a sample and hypotheses before changing a website.

Start with documented requirements

Check the official guidance for the specific search product you are investigating. For Google's AI search features, existing Search requirements and people-first content remain relevant. Eligibility does not guarantee that a page will be shown.

Test observations without inventing weights

If several cited pages answer a question directly, that is a useful observation. It does not establish a universal weighting for headings, word count or freshness. Keep the sample and alternative explanations visible when writing up a finding.

Work on controllable improvements

Fix broken access, contradictory product facts, missing evidence and difficult mobile layouts. Make a relevant page genuinely useful before attempting speculative tuning. Maintain an edit log and repeat your observations without claiming that one changed answer proves causation.

Sources and further reading

Google's guidance explains the requirements for its own search experiences. For a worked process, read the related practical guide. Apply engine-specific documentation to that engine, rather than treating it as a rule for every assistant.
