Build an AI Citation Strategy

A citation strategy identifies where your useful information could support an answer and how to measure observed links to it. It cannot control which sources an engine selects.

Choose an asset worth maintaining

Start with a reference your customers need: an implementation guide, methodology, comparison or original dataset. Define the question it answers and the person responsible for keeping it current. A routine product claim does not become research because it appears in a chart.

Make the evidence inspectable

Explain how a result was obtained, the sample and its limits. Label hypothetical examples clearly. Put substantive facts in text, give charts accessible explanations and link to supporting material. Readers should be able to check a claim without guessing its context.

Save the cited URL, prompt, engine and date when your page appears as a source. Inspect whether the surrounding statement is accurate. Review uncited questions for genuine information gaps; avoid assuming that an extra paragraph or schema type will earn a link.
