What is Rich Results?

Enhanced search listings, such as review stars, product details or event dates, shown for eligible pages.

Definition

Rich results are search listings that display extra information beyond the standard title, link and snippet. Examples include review stars, prices and availability, recipe times, event dates and breadcrumbs. They usually depend on structured data, and the search engine decides whether to show them even when a page is eligible.

For example, Aarvi Skin's product page might show a price, stock status and review rating in Google results because it uses Product markup. Hydrakind's similar page, without markup, shows a plain listing. Which rich result types are supported, and the rules for each, change over time.

Why it matters

Rich results make listings more informative and can influence which result a searcher chooses. The structured data behind them also makes facts like price, availability and ratings explicit for machines, which supports accurate descriptions of your products. Search engines change which types they support, so a rich result that appears today may not appear later. Treat the underlying structured data as the lasting asset, not the display itself.

What to do

  • Identify which rich result types Google currently supports for your page types.
  • Add accurate structured data that matches visible content, and validate it.
  • Monitor rich result reports in Search Console for errors and changes.

Common questions

Does structured data guarantee rich results?

No. Structured data makes a page eligible, but the search engine decides whether to show a rich result based on the query, the page and its own guidelines. Markup must also follow the rules for each type and match what visitors can see on the page.

Do rich results help with AI search?

The display itself is a Google Search feature. The structured data behind it makes key facts explicit, which may help systems interpret pages, though AI assistants do not publish how they use it. Accurate product and organization data is useful regardless of whether a rich result appears.
